Holocaust Memory

Through 28 August, the Imperial War Museum, London, is showing the exhibition 'Legacies of Silence: The Visual Arts and Holocaust Memory’. Curated by Glenn Pujo, it includes the works of some 46 Nazi concentration camp victims, 35 of whom were actual survivors. Of these, Zoran Music is best known, honoured with a retrospective in l995 at the Grand Palais, Paris. Also represented in this new exhibition are some of the artists of the period who preceded the holocaust, such as Otto Dix, and Felix Nussbaum (l904-l944), whose 'Self Portrait in the Camp' reveals the suffering caused by both dysentery and acute malnutrition.
