If the splatter of decadence seems original at the ICA, take a
look back at Creative Quarters, at the Museum of London where
Augustus Egg, painter of the Past and Present I, II and III series
in Tate Britain, narrates the conflicts of morality and sexual transgression.
This yearning for respectability by the artist in the face of decadence
was of course prefigured by William Hogarth, whose narrative series
The Rakes Progress is viewable at Sir John Soanes
Museum.
